JANUARY 2019

Teen and Tween Make & Take Mondays
Imagine, create, and Participate! Each Monday from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm Teens and Tweens can participate in a variety of hands-on activities that include making fun, seasonal crafts and exploring STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) activities. This is a FREE drop - in event for Teens and Tweens in Grades 5 to 12, registration is not required.

Monday, January 7 at 3:30 pm: 3D SNOWFLAKES
Use paper, pipecleaners, glitter and gems to create winter cheer!
Monday, January 14 at 3:30 pm: THREE KINDS OF SLIME
Glitter Slime, Fluffy Slime and Glow-in-the-Dark Slime: What's the difference? Experiment as you go!
Monday, January 28 at 3:30 pm: HIDDEN SURPRISE BATH BOMBS
What will hatch out of your fizzy bath bomb?

Middle School Book Clubs
Library book clubs are open to teens in grades 6 to 8. Each club meets once a month from 2 pm to 3pm at school. Books, snacks and book-related activities provided. Book Clubs run from September 2018 to May 2019.

Teen & Tween Advisory Board Meeting
Saturday, January 19 from 3 pm to 4 pm
Food! Fun! And most importantly a voice! Join the Library’s Teen and Tween Advisory Board and provide input for our programs with the young adult librarian. For teens and tweens in grades 5 to 9 who live in Westford have a parent who is a member of the Friends of the Library. The meeting(s) will be held in the Children’s Story Hour Room. This is a free, drop-in event. Registration not required.

Monday, February 25 at 3:30 pm: CANDY AND COOKIE BUILDING
Use Graham Crackers and Royal Icing to create edible houses, cars, even...castles? Let your imagination go wild!

Harry Potter Book Night: Celebrating Hogwarts
Thursday, February 7 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
It’s all things Hogwarts at the library. The staff of the J.V. Fletcher Library will be on hand to provide a spellbinding experience celebrating the magic of J.K. Rowling’s amazing books – there will be plenty of picture opportunities, magical games, and enchanting activities throughout the library.
Move around at your own pace, drop in any time between 4 and 8 p.m. This program is for ALL AGES and is funded by the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library.

~*~*~*~*~February Vacation Week~*~*~*~*~

TWEEN Playful Engineers Traveling Makerspace:
Wednesday, February 20 from 2 to 4 pm  
This is a hands on STEM focused workshop where tweens can design, build, test, and play with mechanical doodads, ping pong catapults, exploding popsicle stick snakes, and domino pyramids, just to name a few. FREE TICKETS for tweens and adults are available in person starting Monday, Feb. 4. This program is for kids in grades 5 to 8. Please note that space is limited – adults may participate if invited by their tween.

Teen Bollywood Dance with Rachna Jangid:
Thursday, February 21 from 11am to 12pm
Jump in and learn this exciting style of dance – no experience necessary! Register online starting Monday Feb. 11 at 9am. Space is limited to 20 participants and is open to teens and tweens in grades 5 to 12.

Make a light-up LED cuff to wear and use!
Monday, March 11 at 3:30 pm: STAINED GLASS WINDOW STARS
Paper stars that turn your window into art!
Monday, March 18 at 3:30 pm: AIR-DRY CLAY SCULPTURE
Learn to mold and hand-build with air dry clay to make a sculpture or bowl.
Monday, March 25 at 3:30 pm: DUCT TAPE CRAFTS
Every color or pattern of Duct Tape that you can imagine! Make a wallet, key chain, flower, or somthing new!

Make and Take Monday, March 4 at 3:30 pm: WEARABLE TECH

Teen Tech Week – Ozobots: Friday, March 8 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Ozobots are teeny tiny robots with BIG opportunities. Use our iPads to code, explore, and create Ozobot challenges of speed, skill, and imagination. Open to Teens and Tweens in grades 5-12. Registration required for this free program. Teens and tweens can register ONLINE starting Monday February 25th at 9am.

BIG GAMES for Teens:
Tuesday, April 16 from 2:30 to 4:30 pm  
Play Larger-than-life versions of Jenga, Connect Four, Bowling, and more! Snacks will be served. Register online starting Monday, April 1 at 9am. Space is limited to 20 participants and is open to teens and tweens in grades 6 to 12.


LEGO Themed Escape Room:
Wednesday, April 17 at 1:00pm AND 2:30pm
Working in teams, solve a series of challenging Lego-themed puzzles and riddles to ultimately unlock a sweet treat-filled suitcase.

Space is limited to 20 participants. Kids and tweens in grades 3-6 can register online starting Monday, April 8 at 9am.
