Summer Reading Program (Up to Grade 4)

  • Kids
  • Summer Reading Program (Up to Grade 4)

The secret is out- we are WILD about reading this summer!

How it Works

Children who read will set weekly, individual reading goals with their parents. Reading goals will vary from child to child and perhaps from week to week. We will be using a Google Form for registration and for your weekly reading logs.

Children who are read to can also participate!

How to Sign Up

Please submit one form per child and tell your friends too! Then, come into the library, write your name on a sun shape for our bulletin board, and pick up your lobster claw and charm ring. And come back every week for more fun.

Aaaaaand …. ADULTS SIGN UP HERE!

Use these links to navigate this page (or just keep scrolling and scrolling and scrolling down 🙂 if you prefer).

Collecting Weekly Charms

The charms are back! Kids can collect up to eight NEW reading charms and string them on a lobster claw and hook to hang off of a backpack, display in their room, or even make something else out of like a necklace or bracelet. Whatever you decide, your kids will have fun coming to see us each week and picking out a special charm to add to their collection.

Once you sign up, come into the library to pick out a lobster claw clasp and a charm ring. Then, each week during the summer reading program (starting each Monday), we will offer a different set of charms to choose from:

Summer Programs

Most of our programs are outdoor events (check the Summer Programs page for details) but some we have already planned to have indoors. If it rains, the program will take place in the Meeting Room. Please register for events where asked so that we know how many are coming and so that we can send you a reminder email.

All events are FREE and generously funded by the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library and the KDK Foundation.

Logging Your Reading

This summer we are using a Google form to record your summer reading. Fill out a reading log and submit it once a week – you can go back in and edit this entry if you read more after submitting. It is entirely up to you how much you read in a week – you set your own goals and have fun! The first week to log reading starts June 26, 2024 and link will be active on that date.

On MONDAY each week, we will randomly select a name from those logs submitted – you select the raffle you want to enter on the reading log form. We will list the winner on the table below.

Who is hiding in the room this summer?

APPA from Avatar will be hiding in the room this summer. will be in a different location in the CHILDREN’S ROOM each week. Appa is a sky bison most noted for his ability to fly, a feat achieved through airbending, which made him the primary means of transportation utilized by Team Avatar. He also looks like a pretty cool wild thing.

Each week during summer reading, find him then fill out a ticket with your name and phone number to enter a raffle to win the POP. You can do this once a week.

Your name will be entered into an end of summer raffle every time you fill out a ticket so find the POP every week. (You need to come into the children room to enter the raffle.)

At the end of the summer reading program the winner of the POP will be announced here.
