Kids Programs

Here is a list of all of our special program offerings through May. These programs have been made possible by COVID funding secured by Senator Edward J. Kennedy, First Middlesex District as well as generous funding from the Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library and the KDK Foundation in honor of Kurt Kelly.

Virtual Cartooning Class

For kids in grades 3 and 4 only – award winning cartoonist Rick Stromoski will host three workshops in 2021.

In this Zoom instructional program presented by Pop Up Art School, kids in grades 3 and 4 will paint this colorful painting that you will be proud to hand on the wall. We will provide a kit that will be available for curbside pickup before the program. Each kit includes everything you need to create this painting as you follow along with the instructor.

This program is open to Westford residents and requires a library card number for sign up.

Science Fun

Vacation Week – April 17-23

This self-paced program is for kids in grades K-4. Parental supervision is HIGHLY recommended for the K-2 kids. Registration will open on Monday, April 5 and is limited to 50 participants and ONE kit per household.

Follow along with two neuroscientists as they step you through experiments with weather, secret codes, sound, light, and circuits. Dr. Sandra Pearl and Dr. Elizabeth Bless are members of Science and Education and Development (SEED), a regional nonprofit organization run by PhD scientists with a passion for empowering teachers with the confidence to instill a love of science in their students.

You will pick up a kit of materials that includes every item needed for active experimentation. When you register, we will send you a link to the private YouTube videos that will instruct you how to do the experiments. Do them at your own pace and send us some exciting pictures!

One kit per household please.

Mad Science – Marvels of Motion

For the whole family – this interactive event is all about the fundamentals of moving science with Newton’s Laws of Motion. Discover the science of gravity and balance, kinetic beads, and watch Mad Scientist Jonathan remove a tablecloth without clearing the table!

All of these experiments are done with household objects and you get to follow along and do them at home. We will email registrants the supply list and a zoom link for the program.

Looking for the Sun with Mr. Vinny

Friday, April 23 at 1 p.m.

Mr. Vinny presents a fun fantasy story with a King, a Cat, and a Cosmic character. This is an original tale told with puppets, pictures, fruit, and bad music played by a very, very silly man. The live Zoom program is 30 minutes long and is best for kiddos age 3 – 9.

In these two interactive programs, Emily Gilstrap of the Dream Ballet School presents a virtual adventure that brings the stories of the Carnival of the Animals and Sleeping Beauty to life through music and dance.
