We are excited to announce our 2026 Summer Reading theme: Plant a Seed, Read! Please download our 2026 Children’s Summer Reading brochure (beginning May 22nd) to read about our fun summer programs, prizes, and more!

Register below for our 2026 Summer Reading for Kids (ages 0 though 10)! Our summer reading program kicks off on Monday, June 22nd and runs through August 17th.

How it Works: Children will create their own individual reading goal(s) with their parent/caregiver. Feel free to include titles from the Westford School Reading List or the recently announced MCBA 2027 nominees within your reading goal(s). Children who are read to can also participate! Audio books count too! Be sure to look at e-audiobooks on Hoopla and Libby using your J.V. Fletcher library card.

Log Your Summer Reading Each Week

Log your summer reading online once per week to earn a weekly raffle entry. Select one of two prizes for your chance to win. Weekly winners will be emailed on the following Monday afternoon. Log your summer reading on time for all 8 weeks to enter to win the grand prize raffle (Our summer Reading program closes on Monday, August 17th)

  • Week 2: June 30th through July 6th
  • Week 3: July 7th through July 13th
  • Week 4: July 14 through July 20th
  • Week 5: July 21st through July 27th

ZMakes Beads with Zangar

Join us for a creative and meditative beading workshop for kids! Zangar of ZMakesBeads will be here to lead this expressive arts workshop that teaches participants the basics of beaded jewelry making and the difference between semi-precious stones and precious stones. The materials used are semi-precious stones and other natural jewelry materials. Semi-precious stones have been appreciated for generations.  Young participants will leave with their own handmade jewelry. Farm on the Go with Good Pickin Farm

Good Pickin Farm, 5 Gould Road

Let’s celebrate summer with a fun visit to our local Good Pickin Farm! We’ll meet cute and friendly farm animals at their “Farm on the Go” petting zoo. All are welcome to hold, pet, and brush the animals. Farm animals include goats, bunnies, chickens, ducks, and a turkey.

Registration is required and we ask that participants sign up for one of the four 30-minute sessions. Please note which time slot you are registering for with your registration.

Join us at the charming Winnie the Pooh house for a fun storytime based on A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh story! Ellen Harde will read selections from the original Winnie the Pooh and young participants will have time to explore Westford’s Winnie the Pooh house. This year celebrates the 100-year anniversary as the original book’s publication by A.A. Milne was on on October 14, 1926. This program is for ages 2-6. Registration is required. Questions? Digital Art for Kids: Drawing Creatures & Critters

Thursday, July 30 1:00 p.m. Westford Recreation Department at Roudenbush Community Center – 3rd floor 65 Main Street

Join Kevin Figueroa as he instructs us on using the Procreate app for iPads to create our own digital art featuring creatures and critters.  We’ll explore the basics of creating art in Procreate, the most popular digital art app for the iPad. Procreate makes it simple to use a reference picture to guide our art. In this class, we learn to find reference photos and import them into our artwork to use as guides. We draw various animals, then unique creations of our very own.  Kevin will have iPads and Apple pencils for participants to use, so no need to bring your own! Artwork produced in class can be brought home on a phone. For ages 8+. Registration is required.

Cardboard Build: Let’s Make Flowers

Let’s build with cardboard! Join us for a fun cardboard build as we create beautiful flowers from the recycled cardboard that we receive from our library book deliveries! We’ll have safe cardboard cutting tools and cool screws to attach the cardboard together. Please wear an old t-shirt or bring along a smock, as we will paint our one-of-a-kind flowers. Toe Jam Puppet Band Variety Show

Bicycle Safety Storytime

Join us from 10:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. for this special story time on bicycle safety. We will read picture books about bicycles, then meet with Deborah Kreithen from the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School—A Program of MassDOT, to talk with us about bicycle safety for children. This story time is designed for children ages 3 to 6.

Stuffie Sleepover at the Library

Bring your stuffie over to the Children’s Room and let them roam the library overnight! Drop-off will be from 2 PM – 4:30 PM on Thursday, August 13th. You can pick them up Friday, August 14th, starting at 1 PM

Drop off your stuffies and don’t forget to make them a nametag bracelet while you’re here! There will be lots of fun adventures in store for them! We’ll make sure to tuck them in for a good night’s sleep afterward. Pictures of what they got up to will be posted on the Children’s Instagram, @jvfletcherkids. Questions?
