Seed Library

Borrow, Grow, Return!

Our seed library is a place where patrons may donate seeds, already dried and storage-ready, harvested from plants they have grown themselves. Donated seeds may be vegetable, fruit or flower seeds, and may be placed in the seed library’s drop-off box. They will be sorted and stored in a vintage library card catalog. The Seed Library was the 2016 Eagle Scout Project of the late Will O’Neal, then a graduating Senior at Westford Academy; the Seed Library is to be dedicated in his memory, as an on-going tribute and service to the gardening and horticulture he so loved.

Community members may “borrow” the donated seeds, with the expectation that they will give back some seeds from the plants grown from the borrowed seeds at the end of the growing season. Returning seeds is not required; however, it is encouraged so that the program may keep going.

Please be aware that as this is a community-run program, all the seeds are not guaranteed to germinate. Also, please do not donate seeds from commercially grown plants that prohibit propagation.

During the duration of the Library’s relocation to its temporary site at 515 Groton Road, the seed library and drop-off box are located at the Roudenbush Community Center. We thank Troop 159 and the Westford Rotary Club for all their support in helping maintain a thriving Seed Library!
